Towns we serve
Apple Valley
West of Rosemount. City wells run harder than Rosemount's, which matters for water heaters and fixtures.
Farmington
South of Rosemount. An older downtown and a large north side built in the 1990s and 2000s.
Inver Grove Heights
North of Rosemount. Two ZIP codes and housing that ranges from older streets to newer subdivisions.
Hastings
East of Rosemount. Oldest housing of the four towns and plumbing permit rules the city spells out.
Water supply and hardness by town
These figures come from each city's own published pages. They are not identical in vintage, and some are undated, so treat them as a guide to what scale does to a tank, not as lab results for your tap.
| Town | Water source per the city | Hardness the city reports | Page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rosemount | City wells in the Jordan aquifer | 17 grains per gallon. | Rosemount services |
| Apple Valley | City wells in the Jordan and Mt. Simon-Hinckley aquifers | About 24 grains per gallon. | Apple Valley |
| Farmington | Seven city wells in the Prairie du Chien-Jordan and Jordan aquifers | About 16 grains per gallon (published figures vary by page). | Farmington |
| Inver Grove Heights | Six city wells in the Jordan aquifer | 20 to 22 grains per gallon. | Inver Grove Heights |
| Hastings | Six city wells in the Jordan aquifer | 16 grains per gallon. | Hastings |
Sources are the city water pages and water-quality reports for each town. Ask your city utility for the current figure at your address.
What changes from town to town
Water hardness is the clearest difference. City pages put Rosemount at 17 grains per gallon, Hastings at 16, Apple Valley at about 24 and Inver Grove Heights at 20 to 22. Harder water means faster scale in tank water heaters and faucet cartridges.
Sump pump rules also differ. Farmington and Inver Grove Heights ban sump pump discharge to the sanitary sewer, Hastings has a clear-water ordinance, and for Rosemount the safe move is to ask the city Building Permits and Inspections office before connecting anything.
The same state plumbing code applies in every town we serve, which is the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) as Minnesota Rules chapter 4714 adopted it. What changes from town to town is the permit office and the water supply, which the town pages cover.
If your town is not listed
Call the dispatch line and give the address. We will say whether we can reach it and how the visit would work. Towns near the edge of the area, such as Eagan or Coates, are worth a call even though they have no page of their own.
For local plumbing questions in Rosemount itself, start with the services overview and then the page for the problem you have.
What to have ready when you call
A few details let the dispatcher match the visit to the problem and tell you quickly whether we can reach you.
The street address.
Include the town and ZIP code so the dispatcher knows which city rules and water supply apply.
What you see.
Water on the floor, a gurgling drain, no heat or a smell. Short and specific is best.
Where the shutoff is.
Whether you found and closed the fixture or main shutoff before calling.
Access.
Whether the area is a finished basement, a crawlspace or an outbuilding, and who can let the plumber in.
If the problem might be on the city's side, such as a water main break, say so. After hours the city directs those calls to 911 so a dispatcher can alert Public Works.
